In a significant step towards environmental conservation and public awareness, Prof. Sat Prakash Bansal, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of the Central University of Himachal Pradesh (CUHP), unveiled specially designed eco-friendly trash bags. The launch took place in collaboration with the Regional Officer and Laboratory Head of the Himachal Pradesh State Pollution Control Board, Dharamshala. The initiative, a joint effort by CPEAHCT and the State Pollution Control Board, is aimed at promoting environmental consciousness among tourists and the local population.

Awareness Drive Aims to Educate Tourists and Locals About Responsible Waste Disposal

The newly designed trash bags are being sponsored by Haimi Industries, Dehra. This partnership between academia, government, and the private sector underscores the shared responsibility in promoting sustainable tourism and environmental hygiene. These trash bags are slated for distribution on the occasion of Earth Day, April 22, 2025, by the staff of the Pollution Control Board with active participation from CUHP students. The primary goal is to sensitize the public—especially tourists and visitors—about the importance of not littering public spaces. The initiative encourages the use of these trash bags for collecting waste generated during travel, such as food wrappers and disposable items, thereby preventing littering in markets, tourist destinations, and natural sites.

Prof. Bansal emphasized the need for behavioural change among tourists and locals alike, noting that such initiatives are vital for preserving the natural beauty and ecological integrity of Himachal Pradesh. It also reflects CUHP’s ongoing commitment to integrating sustainability with education and community engagement. The eco-trash bags are expected to make a visible difference during Earth Day celebrations and beyond, as part of a broader campaign to instill eco-consciousness among the general public.
