Sharan College of Education for Women Organizes Lecture on Ahilyabai Holkar’s Vision of Environmental Stewardship and Women’s Empowerment

Sharan College of Education for Women organized an insightful and inspiring guest lecture on the theme “Environmental Protection, Women and Indigenous Knowledge: Revisiting Ahilyabai Holkar’s Vision.” The session aimed to revisit the historical legacy of Ahilyabai Holkar and her visionary role in integrating governance, ecology, and women’s empowerment—an approach that remains deeply relevant in today’s climate discourse.

The lecture was delivered by Dr. Monika, Assistant Professor at Central University of Himachal Pradesh, who highlighted Ahilyabai Holkar’s progressive leadership, her commitment to ecological preservation, and her inclusive approach to governance. Dr. Monika emphasized how Ahilyabai’s initiatives—such as constructing wells, restoring temples and ghats, and promoting tree plantations—demonstrated a deep understanding of environmental stewardship and public welfare. She underscored the importance of drawing from such traditional wisdom to address contemporary sustainability challenges, with women at the forefront of environmental action.

The event was graced by Suman Saini ji, Kishori Vikas Prant Pramukh of Seva Bharti. Her presence added significance to the event and inspired the attendees.

The session concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by College Principal Suman Sharma, who acknowledged the valuable insights shared by Dr. Monika and the esteemed guests. She praised the efforts of the organizing team and encouraged students to take forward the message of environmental protection with sincerity and action.
