As part of the International Women’s Day Week celebrations, the Department of Journalism & Mass Communication at Central University of Himachal Pradesh (CUHP) organised a special discussion on “Diet and Nutrition for Women’s Health.” The event underscored the crucial role of proper nutrition in enhancing women’s well-being and empowering them to lead healthier lives.
International Women’s Day, observed globally on March 8, is a day to honour women’s achievements across various fields and advocate for gender equality. The discussion served as a significant platform to address major health concerns affecting women, such as anemia, obesity, and osteoporosis, and highlighted the importance of balanced nutrition in overcoming these challenges.
The session began with a welcome speech by Dr. Monika, Assistant Professor in the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, who introduced the students to the topic and outlined the discussion guidelines. This was followed by the opening address delivered by Dr. Archna Katoch, Head of the Department, who emphasized that women’s health is a fundamental aspect of empowerment.
The discussion focused on the need for greater awareness, improved dietary habits, and preventive healthcare measures to effectively address common health issues. Additionally, it highlighted the role of media in disseminating awareness about women’s health and nutrition.
Concluding the session, Dr. Monika, the event coordinator, underscored the significance of accurate health information, stating that the right knowledge about dietary choices enables women to make informed decisions for a healthier lifestyle.
The event witnessed the participation of MA Journalism & Mass Communication students, PhD research scholars, and other faculty members, including Dr. Harsh Mishra, Assistant Professor Harikrishnan Bhaskaran, and Eminent Professor Aditya Kant Sharma.
The discussion served as a vital step in raising awareness about women’s health and nutrition.
