Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke at the Outreach Session on Artificial Intelligence, Energy, Africa and the Mediterranean during the G7 Summit in Apulia, Italy today.

The Prime Minister stated that he was pleased to attend the Summit following his re-election in the largest democratic process in history. He emphasized the importance of a human-centered approach for successful technology implementation, citing India’s achievements in using digital technology for public services.

Speaking about India’s AI Mission, the Prime Minister stressed the importance of utilizing AI technology for the advancement and welfare of all individuals. He highlighted that India is promoting global cooperation as a founding member of the Global Partnership for AI, with the goal of achieving this overarching objective.

The Prime Minister explained India’s strategy for transitioning to alternative energy sources, based on making them widely available, easy to access, affordable, and widely accepted. He stated that India aims to achieve NET ZERO emissions by 2070 and referred to the country’s Mission LiFE initiative. He urged people worldwide to participate in his tree planting campaign, “Plant4Mother,” launched on World Environment Day, and transform it into a global movement with a personal touch and shared responsibility.

The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of prioritizing the issues and needs of the Global South, especially Africa. He mentioned that it was a matter of honour for India that AU was granted permanent membership in the G20 during its presidency.
