On 31 August 2025, The Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Leaders’ Summit in Tianjin.
The two leaders noted the positive momentum and consistent progress in bilateral ties since their previous interaction in Kazan in October 2024. They emphasized that India and China are development partners rather than competitors, and that their differences should not escalate into disputes. Both sides agreed that fostering a stable and cooperative relationship, built on mutual respect, shared interests, and sensitivity, is essential not only for the growth and progress of their 2.8 billion citizens but also for advancing a multipolar Asia and a multipolar world in line with the evolving dynamics of the 21st century.
The Prime Minister shared a post on X, stating “Had a fruitful meeting with President Xi Jinping in Tianjin on the sidelines of the SCO Summit. We reviewed the positive momentum in India-China relations since our last meeting in Kazan. We agreed on the importance of maintaining peace and tranquility in border areas and reaffirmed our commitment to cooperation based on mutual respect, mutual interest and mutual sensitivity”.
