The demand for a permanent campus for Central University in Himachal Pradesh has been a longstanding one, with proponents arguing that it would greatly benefit the region by providing access to higher education and research opportunities.

As the political landscape continues to evolve, with upcoming elections on the horizon, the issue of the central university has become a key focal point for politicians and parties looking to gain support and leverage from the public. The intense lobbying and campaigning surrounding this issue have only served to further highlight the divisive nature of politics in Himachal Pradesh.

Addressing media toady, Rakesh Chaudhary, independent candidate for Dharamshala by-election 2024 said, “Central University of Himachal Pradesh in Dharamshala has been negatively impacted by political interference. Both major parties have deceived the young people in the name of CU.”

“I stand firm in my principles and refuse to compromise. The people of Dharamshala have nominated me for the by-election. If elected as MLA, I am committed to serving the people of Dharamshala with humility and dedication, prioritizing their needs and concerns above all else, he added.

It remains to be seen how the central university issue will be resolved and what the implications will be for the future of education in Himachal Pradesh. One thing is certain – the intense political maneuvering and debate surrounding this issue are unlikely to dissipate anytime soon.
