Kangra, Himachal Pradesh – India mourns the loss of another braveheart who made the ultimate sacrifice for the motherland. Subedar Major Pawan Kumar, a valiant soldier from Shahpur in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh, laid down his life while defending the nation on the Line of Control (LoC).
Serving with the 25 Punjab Regiment of the Indian Army, Subedar Major Pawan Kumar was stationed in the highly sensitive Rajouri-Poonch sector of Jammu & Kashmir. On the morning of May 10, at approximately 7:30 AM, he was martyred during heavy unprovoked shelling and firing by Pakistan. In the line of duty and under intense enemy fire, he sustained critical injuries and attained martyrdom.
The news of his martyrdom has plunged the entire region into mourning. Residents of Shahpur and nearby areas are visiting his home to pay their respects and offer condolences to the bereaved family. The village, while engulfed in sorrow, is also filled with immense pride over the sacrifice of their son.
Leaders from across the state have expressed deep grief and extended heartfelt condolences. His martyrdom reminds us once again that the peace and freedom we enjoy come at the cost of great sacrifices by our soldiers. Subedar Major Pawan Kumar’s name will be etched in golden letters in the annals of Indian military history, and his bravery will continue to inspire generations.
